Monas (National Monument)
This is the National Monument or is called Monas. It was firstly constructed in 1961 as a symbol of Indonesian Independence. Our first president, Soekarno, opened it to public in 1975.
This tower is located in the center of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta. Its height reaches 433 ft or 132 m. Monas has the National History Museum inside, the Hall of Independence, the goblet or cup (cawan) part, the peak platform, and the flame.
The entrance ticket is Rp. 2,500 for adult and Rp. 1,000 for children by 3 April, 2011. With this ticket you can enjoy sight from the goblet (cawan) part, go down to the National History Museum, or go up through the stairs to the Independence Hall.

The National History Museum is three meters below the surface of the monument. You can learn about Indonesian history from the scenes along the walls side.
In the hall of Independence, you can see the original text of the Proclamation of Independence in glass case and a map of the Indonesian archipelago in gold.
From the goblet (cawan) part you can enjoy sight of buildings nearby.

If you want to go up to the peak platform observation deck you have to buy a Rp. 7,500 ticket. The elevator with capacity of 11 people will take you to this part. There are binoculars that can be used by coins. You can buy the coins on this platform.
The highest part is the flame. It is covered with 50 kg gold foil.
